Riverside Green

Riverside Green is the latest addition to South Bank Parklands and provides visitors with an expansive riverside lawn, more rainforest, stunning city views and new gathering places to enjoy.

The site of the former riverside restaurants, severely damaged in the 2011 floods, has been transformed into a world-class open space.

With a large shade pavilion, sunken seating area, sprawling green lawn and riverside rest spots, Riverside Green is the ideal place for catching up with friends and family, or simply a space to relax.

Beautiful by day and sparkling by night, Riverside Green features colourful LED lighting, making it a special place to visit after dark.

Riverside Green contributes to South Bank Corporation’s vision to be one of the most vibrant urban and cultural precincts in the world.

Shade pavilion

The shade pavilion and timber deck feature six barbecues as well as moveable tables and chairs. From here you can enjoy spectacular views of the Brisbane River and city.

More green space and trees

Riverside Green provides 6816sqm of green space - that is equivalent to almost a football field of space and it's one and half times the size of River Quay.

With more than 10,000 new plants and 55 mature trees, the project extends South Bank’s rainforest by 650sqm. A new seating area called ‘the grotto’ has been created and features more than 80 hanging plants.

Artwork

Contemporary Aboriginal artist, Elisa Jane Carmichael, a Ngugi woman from Quandamooka Country, has created a water channel and sculptured forms to celebrate freshwater streams and the richness of land connected to water.

Promenade

The rejuvenated area along the promenade provides a rest and lookout area on the river’s edge and features new wooden benches and seats. The promenade upgrades will also improve pedestrian and cycle access.
