South Bank's Regional Flavours - Best Growers and Producers in one Location

19 May 2009

South Bank is preparing to host the inaugural South Bank's Regional Flavours, an exemplary food and wine experience that will bring the best producers and wine makers from across regional Queensland together in one location at South Bank on Saturday 13 June, 2009 from 10am-3pm on Little Stanley Street.

The event will welcome Brisbane food lovers to experience the wine and produce from more than 80 growers from the Darling Downs, the South Burnett region, the Granite Belt, Scenic Rim and Gold Coast regions.

Visitors can participate in wine appreciation sessions and buy fresh produce, meats and poultry, wine, liqueur, coffee and chocolate, amidst a festival atmosphere with live music and entertainment.

Stallholders will include The Bramble Patch, Sandmill Pestos, Granite Belt Dairy, Sirromet Wines, Granite Belt Highlands Winery, Crystal Ridge Lavender, Barambah Organics, Barambah Wines, Bunnyconellen Olives, Kingaroy Cheese, and more.

South Bank's Regional Flavours will also include live cooking demonstrations conducted by one of Australia's best food and wine commentators and chefs, Peter Howard, who will present a series of recipes solely utilising ingredients from the Granite Belt. Award winning chefs from restaurants including The Plough Inn at South Bank will also present signature dishes on the day.

South Bank Corporation Events Manager David Contarini said the event is an example of the Corporation's commitment and support to Queensland made products and produce, and will present inner-city locals and visitors with a unique Queensland experience in one location.

"South Bank's Regional Flavours is a signature event for the precinct. It will introduce these regions to locals, encouraging new visitation to our state's tourism destinations," Mr Contarini said.

Granite Belt Wine & Tourism Director of Marketing Michelle Cozzi said the region is thrilled to participate in South Bank's Regional Flavours, explaining South Bank Wine and Growers Market, which is based on a similar principal, provided increased sales opportunities for their stallholders.

"We joined South Bank Corporation to introduce the Granite Belt to Brisbane residents in 2008 in the quarterly South Bank Wine and Growers Market. These markets were a great success, and we expect South Bank's Regional Flavours will again provide an outstanding avenue to promote our wines and the seasonal nature of food in our region," Ms Cozzi said.

"Events such as South Bank's Wine and Growers Market provide a great support to regional growers and regional tourism, and genuinely benefit everyone in our community."
