Artists Unveiled:
South Bank's Acoustic in the Park
The line up for the 2009 South Bank's Acoustic in the Park has been unveiled, with the announcement of the eight talented, emerging acoustic artists selected to perform at the live music event at Rainforest Green on Sunday July 19, 2009 at from 12pm-4pm.
Brisbane recording artist and 2007 Acoustic in the Park winner Anna Weatherup will open the event, which supports the local music industry and budding musicians by providing a platform to showcase original artists to a live audience.
"I found South Bank's Acoustic in the Park to be a positive and authentic experience, as well as being great fun. People really want to hear original music right now; there is a craving for it. This event provides the chance for original artists to connect with the community and I'm looking forward to coming back to perform again this year," Ms Weatherup said.
South Bank Corporation Manager, Events David Contarini said the judging panel was thrilled with the quality of applicants, noting up to 200 musicians filed applications to perform at this year's event, with the top eight selected following a rigorous process.
"The eight finalists are strong, unique performers and we expect the audience will really enjoy the event," Mr Contarini said.
"The finalists include a national fingerstyle champion, an acoustic pop-rock duo, a contemporary musician, an award winning country music artist, and artists who are inspired by upbeat R&B, blues and folk music.
The audience will be the judge and at the event and will select their favourite artist, who will be awarded with a Maton acoustic guitar, valued at more than $1200.
The finalists include Rheanna Leschke of Glamorgan Vale, Kristy Apps of West End, Jason McGregor of Slacks Creek, Arron Matthews of Morningside, Lauren Crick of Bethania, The Liquid Afternoon of East Ballina, Pat Tierney of Wavell Heights and Steve Snow and Aaron Supurmaniam of Taringa.
"We expect more than 1000 people to make their way to South Bank for the event, where they can enjoy a glass of wine and a barbeque with their partner or friends at Rainforest Green - there's no better way to start a new week," Mr Contarini said.
