South Bank will join cities across the world to take a united action on global warming when South Bank Corporation, its retailers and the precinct's partners turn off their lights for Earth Hour on Saturday 27 March 2010.
Between 8:30pm-9:30pm, South Bank Corporation and its retailers will be joined by all precinct partners, including the Queensland Museum, Queensland Art Gallery, Gallery of Modern Art and Queensland Performing Arts Centre, to adjust lighting, turning off all nonessential lighting and signs.
Many restaurants will turn signs and some outdoor lighting off, and will provide candles on tables for diners.
South Bank Corporation Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Snow says the precinct is showing its support to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) initiative and is encouraging other Brisbane organisations, partners and the community to join them.
"South Bank will join the WWF and hundreds of others in sending a powerful global message that it is possible to take action on climate change and succeed."

"Since 2006 we have actively implemented a number of energy saving initiatives including the installation of LED and energy efficient lighting across the precinct.
"We have also installed timers to regulate our hot water systems and common area lighting to avoid excessive energy use.
"Over the last five years, the South Bank Corporation has made positive steps to reduce our carbon footprint and ensure a more efficient and eco-aware precinct now and in the future," he said.
