Step Out at South Bank:
NRMA Insurance Dancing in the Street
Dance Fever will hit Little Stanley Street and Grey Street at South Bank when the third annual NRMA Insurance Dancing in the Street event takes place on Saturday 8 August 2009 from 6pm - 10pm.
With a bumper program, the 2009 NRMA Insurance Dancing in the Street Event will expand across seven stages, with up to 15,000 people expected to turn out for Brisbane's biggest street party, which features live music and interactive dance demonstrations and performances with professional instructors and talented dancers.
South Bank Corporation Manager, Events David Contarini said the event is creative and engaging with a goal to encourage Brisbane locals to maintain a fun, active and healthy lifestyle during the cooler Winter months.
"Dance has become an increasingly popular form of exercise: it's a fun and social activity, and events such as NRMA Insurance Dancing in the Street give you a chance to explore emerging dance genres or try something new without having to commit to a program or lessons in advance," Mr Contarini said.
More than 14 different styles of dance will be showcased on the evening, including Hip Hop, Bollywood, Tahitian Hula, Jazz, Jive and the 80s, with a special tribute to Michael Jackson.
"We're raising the bar this year, and have developed an exciting program that is fun and energetic. The event takes place on Little Stanley and Grey Streets, which is a vibrant dining hub, so visitors can begin, or end the evening with drinks, tapas or dinner with friends."
Since its inception, Little Stanley Street has established itself as a unique dining precinct in Brisbane. Little Stanley Street also hosts Friday Night Salsa each week, a popular event that takes place outside café and fashion boutique, Denim Co.
Little Stanley Street and Grey Street (between Ernest and Tribune Street) will be closed to traffic for the event, on Saturday 8 August 2009.
