Right in time for Summer, a new series of free yoga and aqua aerobics classes will be taught by qualified instructors in the Parklands at South Bank, when the Vaalia Yoghurt Feel Good Program returns from Tuesday 6 October - Saturday 28 November, 2009.
Now in its third year, the popular Vaalia Yoghurt Feel Good Program will introduce a new yoga program for mothers and their babies on Tuesday mornings at 9:30am.
The program will also introduce an additional weeknight yoga influenced class for all locals, visitors, inner-city professionals and students, 'Mind and Movement'. The classes will take place at 5:30pm on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Aqua aerobics classes will also take place on Saturday mornings, from 9:30am.
South Bank Corporation Manager Events, David Contarini said the Vaalia Yoghurt Feel Good Program demonstrates the Corporation's commitment to encouraging healthy lifestyles for people of all ages and stages in life.
"This is a great time to get outside, restore balance in your life and take advantage of our unique location and climate. This program is convenient, affordable, and inclusive - the new Mummy and Me yoga class is a wonderful initiative that offers great health benefits to new mothers as well as their babies," Mr Contarini said.
The Mummy and Me yoga classes will be run by instructor Suzanne Swan, director of Yoga Baby. The classes are suitable for babies aged from six weeks old, to an active crawling stage, and the slow, gentle classes will help new mothers regain core strength within six months of regular practice.
"Yoga relaxes the nervous system and unites the mind, body and spirit. The Mummy and Me classes will help new mums regain strength and tone in a healthy way, and can also help the postural development of babies," Ms Swan said.
"One of the great things about these classes is that Mothers are encouraged to attend to their baby's needs during the class. The class is run in two parts, so after the yoga for mothers, there is yoga for the baby, with singing and activities that help babies to socialise."
As part of the series, each participant will receive a free sample of Vaalia low-fat yoghurt after each class and will have the opportunity to win a special Vaalia prize pack weekly.
Mummy and Me yoga classes will take place at 9:30am - 10:30am every Tuesday from 6 October - 24 November, 2009 at Picnic Island Green, the Parklands at South Bank.
Mind and Movement yoga classes will take place at 5:30pm - 6:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 October - 26 November, 2009 on Rainforest Green, the Parklands at South Bank.
Aqua aerobics will take place from 9:30am-10:15am on Saturdays from 10 October - 28 November, 2009 in the Boat Pool, next to Streets Beach, the Parklands at South Bank.
Classes are free, and no bookings are required. Participants are encouraged to bring a towel or yoga mat and to wear loose, comfortable clothing for yoga classes, and appropriate swimwear for aqua aerobics classes.
