Australian White Ibis

The Australian White Ibis is an Australian native wading bird and is very popular with our overseas visitors. The Ibis has increasingly moved to urban areas as their native wetlands have dried up during the recent drought. The Ibis is common throughout the Parklands, especially in the food court areas. We encourage all visitors to the precinct not to feed the birds as they can become quite assertive and linger around areas where there is food readily available. As the bird is a protected species, the Corporation is limited as to how it can reduce the number of birds in the precinct. As a visitor to South Bank, the best advice is to not to feed the Ibis and place your food rubbish in the bins provided.
